What a pane.....

We obviously lead a very quiet and uneventful (but no less contented) life here in Cirencester because we are all very excited about our new windows currently being fitted.
We're particularly excited about our set of french windows...ahh the simple pleasures of life.

Mmmmmmmmm

If you are having a crappy day in Chippenham (which if you live or work in Chippenham is a likely occurance) then I have found the ideal pick-me-up. Go, with you nearest and dearest (including a lively three year old if you have one to hand), to the Angel Hotel and order one of their bacon and brie sandwiches. Not only will you delighted by the amount of sandwiches that you get, but they taste absolutely flippin' marvellous. They are some of the finest and tastiest sandwiches I have ever had (and I am used to fine sandwiches, Ali being the reigning and undisputed world sandwich making champion). Go on treat yourself........
........unfortunately that warm feeling wore off within about twenty minutes of getting back to the office.

New Olympic Sport for London 2012

With the England teams doing so poorly at Football, Cricket and Rugby at the moment it's perhaps time to look for another sport to invest our time, money and support in. I'd like to to propose that there is one sport which has been overlooked for too long and for no good reason. It provides exciting edge of the seat entertainment where team of 9 althletic individuals use their strength and skill to outwit and outplay the opposition. To participate involves no special equipment (the venue provides everything you need - although you'll probably have to contribute to the 'sticker-up's fee). What's more you can have a couple of pints at the same time and some sarnies and chips halfway through the evening.

Yes, that age old game of skittles (Gloucestershire rules) is making a bid to be the next sport to be supported buy the Sports Council. A minimum amount of investment at the West's premier skittles venue ('The Wheatsheaf Inn') will ensure that Team GB bring home skittling gold at London 2012!

Well, its a possibility......

In the meantime, my team - Wheatsheaf Hospital C - are languishing mid-table in the lowest Division of the Cirencester Men's Skittles League (having once reached the heady heights of Division 1). However, we are having a reasonably successful cup run this year and next week have a crammed calender of fixtures with two cup games in two days. To give an idea of the sort of committment the team demands Ali's Dad (Tony) has been playing for the same team, 'Hospital C ', for over fifty years, and his dad played before him. Despite my advancing years I am still referred to as the teams 'youth policy'!

Must go.....I hear Setanta are interested in televising our Singapore Cup match against "the Ploughmen".......

Snow

Yep, a predictable subject to go on our blog. Hey, hasn't everyone had snow - Yep!

Hasn't everyone been out on their sledges - Yep!

Hasn't everyone had a snowball fight - Yep!

Hasn't everyone made a snowman - Yep!

Ah, but has everyone helped make an igloo - Um, I wonder?

Our 'Comic' Friend Ian

Please take a long, hard look at this unlikely hero.

Had a good look? For he is going to go under the scissors and have his beautiful, long, wavy locks chopped off in the name of doing something 'funny-for-money', for Comic Relief.

If he can raise £2000, he is going to have it all shaved off and it has been his friend for 18 years.

If you feel you can, please sponsor him.

Well done Tankie, you are a true 'Comic' star.

Middle

One month into the new year and I'm (Brian) feeling distinctly middle-aged.

Firstly, I'm actually getting quite excited about having some new windows fitted (I know how sad). Then watching the weather forecast and seeing the symbol for snow did I think great time for snowballs and sledging?....No, my first thought was to have a word with Simon-car-share to arrange what we were going to do about getting into work. Then I recently found myself (after years of resistance) listening to (and enjoying) Tom Jones - I even got his new album at Christmas. With the allotment (yes I am looking forward to digging the ground over and tuning in to gardeners world on a Friday evening again) and looking at estate cars and wondering what the boot capacity of the new Ford Espace 307 might be and complaining about people who ride bikes at night without lights and starting to feel that Chris Moyles is not as funny as he used to be and the fact that I can't remember the last time I knew what was Number One in the charts and thinking that Kenneth Clarke would make a good prime minister....there is no hope for me.

I'll get me pipe and slippers.........
